Be a Thornton Volunteer AVID Tutor

Here at Thornton, AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is a 7th and 8th grade elective that helps students achieve academic success and be college ready. We are looking for several parents to be volunteer tutors.

AVID students participate in tutorials on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, and each tutorial group needs a tutor or facilitator to monitor the group’s progress and keep them focused. The job of the tutor is not to give the students the right answer, but to guide student members as they support the presenters. Tutors do not need to know the answer to the students’ questions to be effective.

Tutor training and ongoing support will be provided.

If interested, please contact Mrs. Harman-Murray at x 58036 or Ms. Odland at x 58038
